Full design and project management

Caroline and Andy’s journey began with a simple desire: to transform their cramped and outdated kitchen into a spacious and functional hub for their family. Despite feeling a strong attachment to their home in Great Horkesley, Essex, they were dissatisfied with the limited space and layout of their kitchen. Moving was out of the question, so they turned to me for a solution that would breathe new life into their beloved home.

The key challenge was to expand the kitchen without sacrificing other essential areas of the house. With an underutilised integral garage adjacent to the kitchen, I saw an opportunity to maximise space and efficiency. Collaborating closely with Caroline and Andy, I devised a comprehensive plan that would not only enlarge the kitchen but also incorporate a utility area and a cosy snug for their growing son.

By rethinking the layout, we were able to triple the storage capacity and seamlessly integrate the utility room into the kitchen space. Additionally, we opened up the dining area, enhancing the flow between the kitchen and adjacent living spaces. A highlight of the design was the creation of banquet seating, strategically positioned to optimise views of the garden while providing a comfortable gathering spot for family meals.

Innovative solutions were implemented to address specific needs, such as incorporating a discreet entrance for the family cat—a detail that delighted Caroline and Andy. To maintain a sense of separation between the kitchen and lounge, we installed a glass barn door, allowing natural light to filter through while preserving distinct zones within the home.
Throughout the project, I provided comprehensive design and project management services, guiding Caroline and Andy every step of the way. From conceptualisation to completion, their kitchen and garage makeover was a collaborative journey marked by creativity, efficiency, and meticulous attention to detail.

The end result not only exceeded their expectations but also transformed their house into a more functional and inviting home for their family to enjoy for years to come.
