In the picturesque town of West Mersea, a forgotten part of a family home has been reborn as a delightful holiday let. What was once a dark, narrow hallway filled with doors to rarely used rooms has been reimagined into a bright, welcoming space that guests will cherish for years to come.

The transformation began with a vision: to create a “home away from home” that would serve as both a relaxing retreat for visitors and a smart investment for the owners. The first step was to combine a bathroom and separate shower room into one elegant, spa-like space. Now, guests can unwind in a large freestanding bath or rejuvenate under a spacious walk-in shower – the epitome of holiday luxury.

To maximize the potential of the space, walls were removed to create an open-plan living area. The former office and end bedroom gave way to a generous kitchen-diner, complete with a breakfast bar, flowing seamlessly into a comfortable lounge. This clever redesign not only increased the usable space but also allowed natural light to flood in, instantly lifting the atmosphere.

The remaining bedroom was given a complete makeover, painted in soft, warm cream tones and accented with soothing mauve walls. Plush cushions and throws add layers of comfort, creating a cosy nest for guests to retreat to after a day of coastal exploration.

The heart of the holiday let is undoubtedly the lounge area. The design journey began with a striking yellow chair – a piece that embodies freshness and country charm. This became the cornerstone of the colour scheme, complemented by wool curtains in soft greys and touches of green. The result is a space that feels both invigorating and relaxing, perfectly capturing the essence of a seaside getaway.

Throughout the property, careful consideration was given to lighting. Ample natural light is supplemented by strategically placed accent lights, allowing guests to create the perfect ambience for cosy evenings in.

This West Mersea holiday let is more than just a renovation – it’s a testament to the power of thoughtful design. By reimagining unused space and infusing it with warmth, comfort, and style, a new chapter has begun.
